In July 2026, China’s sodium-ion battery technology achieved a major overseas breakthrough with a 5GWh large-scale European energy storage strategic order. Focusing on distributed PV energy storage and commercial peak-valley arbitrage scenarios in Western Europe, the Tianheng sodium-ion energy storage system will be deployed on a large scale starting from 2027.

This is the first large-scale landing of Chinese sodium-ion batteries in Europe’s high-end energy storage market, marking the official recognition of sodium-ion technology by global mainstream energy markets and breaking the long-term monopoly of lithium batteries in overseas energy storage fields. With excellent low-temperature performance, long cycle life, controllable cost, abundant raw materials and higher safety, sodium-ion batteries are more suitable for European distributed outdoor energy storage, island energy storage and low-temperature regional energy storage scenarios.
